Card and crypto
The Bitcoin discount, and what it really costs
PureTime pays you 5 percent to give up every protection you have, then warns you about it on the same page. Both halves of that are worth reading.
The methods on offer
Credit cards, which is the important one. Cards are charged after the order clears their processing department, and 3D Secure may be requested. They also take Bitcoin at 5 percent off, and Western Union, Wise or MoneyGram at 3 percent off.
The warning they print themselves
This appears on PureTime's own page, not ours:
“It is the nature of Bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies that all transactions are final with no method of chargeback or recourse for the sender of the funds.”
Credit them for it. A seller with a crypto discount to sell has every reason to leave that sentence out, and most do.
Run the numbers
On a $1,200 watch, 5 percent is $60. What you give up for it is the ability to recover $1,200 if the watch never arrives, arrives wrong, or arrives damaged.
That trade is bad at any seller. It is worse here, because PureTime does not offer refunds at all. At a seller who takes returns, an irreversible payment still leaves you one route. Here the card is the only one.
The 3 percent wire discount is the same trade for less money.
Is there a PureTime discount code?
Not a voucher code in the usual sense. The discounts here are attached to payment method, not to a code you paste at checkout, so a puretime discount code page offering you a percentage is describing something that does not exist.
One point from the counter
Discount coupons cannot be combined with the Bitcoin discount. So the choice is one or the other, not both, which makes the card option cheaper than it first looks.
How our counter handles it
A payment you cannot claw back earns no price cut here, because the protection is worth more to you than the saving. Cover runs 24 months on every part of it, put in writing, and a return is opened as a case and argued on the facts, not blocked by a policy line.
